I never lost myself or my dreams that I am still chasing. I found a partner and friends that have helped me in pursuing my goals. Along this journey, I have lost some friends who failed to be reliable, which is ok. I have even lost some friends and recently reconnected over lost time. I believe it is essential for us to truly understand who we are as individuals and who we want to be.

Back in April, we received a surprise package at our door with a chicken starter kit. We soon realized we would be receiving 10 baby chicks a week later.

Being nice and having positive energy is a choice I make every day of my life. Try shifting your negative thoughts and becoming a positive impact on someone’s day. You never know who will be helping. As a reminder, just. Be. nice.

I refuse to hold back anymore or change my comfort level to fit into societal standards that weren’t even built for people like me. I want young Black girls that come to see me, see curly hair that they can relate to and find comfort in that.

Wisconsin, to this day, is one of the most segregated states in America. Segregation was so prevalent within the school district I always felt an internal battle between having to spend time with my white friends or deciding to spend time with my black friends.

I finally had to realize I was jeopardizing my health to try to continue towards my original goal of exclusively breastfeeding for 12 months. I was devastated when I made the decision to stop around 4 months and I felt like the biggest failure ever.

Challenging your friends respectfully but honestly helps to avoid complacency and becoming too comfortable or stagnant in our everyday lives.

I ask myself, where were these family members when I was down and out, broke, hungry, and with nothing to my name.

I’ve never truly celebrated Father’s Day. It was always a day that I never got excited about, because for 15 years of my early childhood and teenage years, my father was in prison.

As our family has grown now, it has become even more important to keep open lines of communication about everything;

I still remember the feeling I had when I thought to myself, “I should probably take a pregnancy test.”

We want, and we expect the same things our ancestors fought for. We want our freedom, we want our respect, and we want our space.
